Workers construct a bridge for a hiking and biking path during the early 1990s through an area that used to be part of the towpath. This section runs between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio.

The workers that were putting in this trail bridge had it a little easier than the original builders of the canal. Those workers, many of whom were Irish and German immigrants, had to battle disease in the many swampy areas and perform very hard work in what was at that time a wilderness.
