A fisherman tries his luck just below Lock 15 in Akron, Ohio. This lock has been cleaned up and the building behind it restored to look like the market that was once there. A hiking and biking path now runs between the lock and the store.

Photojournalist Remarks

When I first walked along this section of canal in the early 1990s it was overgrown, except for a footpath. The building that is now a restored market was boarded up. The transition is really remarkable. In many ways this is one of the most fascinating stretches of canal because there are so many locks within walking distance of each other.
