Rich green carries maple sap buckets into the woods.

Rich Green carries a stack of sap buckets and a gasoline powered drill into the woods to tap trees on the family maple farm in Poultney, Vermont. Rich Green's ancestors have been tapping trees in the area since the 1700s.
Photojournalist Remarks

I took this photo shortly after we drove up to the area of the farm where the Green’s planned to tap trees that day. Not long after we got there Rich grabbed a stack of buckets and his drill, then started walking toward the woods. There are several reasons that I liked this photo, and they are all completely subjective. Rich himself takes up a very small portion of the photo and his back is to the camera. Because his face is not shown, it really becomes a photo that his more about the subject matter than the subject in the photo. The woods, the snow and the implements that Rich is carrying really are what this photo is about. It says that it is the start of sugaring season and that there is a lot work to be done in the woods. This photo is really more about setting a mood than depicting a particular person.
