Photo of curious cows

Curious cows run through their field toward a fence next to Route 132 to check out a stranger during a crisp December morning in Strafford, Vermont.

Photojournalist Remarks

Cows are very curious animals. The curiosity level of these cows was, however, beyond anything that I had encountered in the entire course of this story. I stepped up to the fence to shoot a picture of a lone cow that was standing in the field when suddenly the rest of the group came trotting down the hill to see what I was doing. It was like some kind of bizarre bovine cavalry charge. This was the last good shot I was able to get. After that they all wanted to sniff or lick the camera lens, limiting my shooting to extreme close-ups.
