Dairy farmer Roger LeBlanc of East Hardwick, Vermont watches his daughter Kassandra play around on a tractor during an auction at the Patenaude Farm in East St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Farm auctions are an opportunity for farmers to get off the farm for a few hours, mingle with other farmers and find out the going price for equipment.

Taking this photo was a no-brainer. It's a nice gentle moment where a farm father is watching his daughter have fun, oblivious to the serious business going on around her. I also liked it because Burt Patenaude, the farmer hosting the auction, was getting rid of his herd and equipment because none of his daughters wanted to take over his farm. It made me wonder if the farmer pictured eventually might experience a similar situation himself.
