One of the problems with shooting at many high school football fields is that the lights just aren't quite bright enough for fast action photography, even with the best equipment. Most semi-pro night games are played on high school fields. You are therefore left with two options. Use a flash on your camera or shoot at a slower shutter speed than you might like. Flash often gives red-eye, it doesn't look natural and I've always wondered how distracting it might be to players. Slow shutter speeds lead to blurred photos, bad photos that might have been good photos and dark areas within the picture. I'd rather shoot at 1/1000 of a second or faster for action photography but in this case I settled for 1/250 and you can see that there is blur in much of the photo. The all important face of the player running with the ball was sharp however. Earlier I showed some intentionally blurred photos at much slower shutter speeds to denote action. When the intention is to get tack sharp photos, blur is not welcome.
