Photo of Marlboro Shamrocks players leaving the practice field

Two Marlboro Shamocks' kickers are the last players to leave the field during a downpour at the first practice of the season in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Photojournalist Remarks

It was really, really raining hard when I took this picture. I had not taken a single shot that I really liked at this practice until the team finally left the field and walked through this area on the way back to their cars. I took a few shots of them and started to feel that maybe getting my gear and myself soaked during this practice had been worth it. Suddenly two kickers that had hung around a little longer to get in some wet ball kicks walked off the field together. I felt that the two players made a more interesting photo, partly because they blend into the overall scene better. The same mood wasn't in the photo that showed the team. Keeping the lens dry to get these shots was nightmare. I'd shoot once then have to wipe off the lens with a chamois cloth before I could get in another shot.
