| Photojournalist Remarks
I wanted to get a photo that somehow conveyed the speeds that the ice yachts move at. To do this I chose to shoot a series of photos at 1/30 of a second as they rounded to course marker. I was not able to get the shutter speed low enough to do this with the 100 speed film that I had in the camera, so I got out a -2 stop down filter and put it on the front of the lens that I used. This enabled me to shoot at 1/30 sec and get the motion blur that is seen. Even in the turns the ice yachts were moving extremely fast. Some them must have come within a foot or two of the marker as they rounded it. |
